Belgian IPAs range from light golden to amber, from slightly to heavily cloudy.

What is Belgian IPA?

The essence of Belgian IPA largely overlaps with that of American IPA. What distinguishes the Belgian style from American IPA is the Belgian yeast and the higher hop and alcohol content.

Belgian IPA flavour profile typically exhibits some spicy (pepper, clove) and fruity (banana, pear) notes associated with Belgian yeast.

Origin Story

Belgian IPA is a relatively young member of the IPA family that began to take shape in the early 21st century. The first commercial Belgian IPAs hit the market in 2006-2007; since 2015, it has been an official IPA type.

They are mainly produced in Belgium and the USA.
