The colour of dunkles bock varies from copper to brown and is generally clear.

What is Dunkles Bock?

Dunkles bock, also known as dunkler bock, is a dark, strong, and malty German lager that emphasizes rich maltiness and a slightly roasted flavour. Its aroma and flavour profile features notes of dark bread, toasted bread, caramel, and sometimes chocolate.

When someone refers to bock without any further description, they generally mean dunkles bock, or the dark version of bock. It is a direct descendant of the beer brewed in Einbeck from the 14th century.

Compared to helles bock (light-coloured bock), dunkles bock has a stronger malty flavour and subtler bitterness.
